The project is strongly connected with – and has grown out of - the former Leonardo da Vinci Partnership “In.P.U.T. – Innovative Profile for Updated Training” which focuses on the Cultural Event Manager Profile, and retains four of that project’s key partners (Gecko Programmes, CeSFOr, ETIC and L’IDEM). With the exception of ONECO, all the partners in the STEM project are VET providers and have experience of managing Event Management training/teaching activities.
This project was funded by the European Union, Lifelong Learning Programme as a Leonardo Transfer of Innovation. We transferred an innovative Package of Training for cultural event managers from the UK to our partners in Poland, Portugal, France, and Italy.

Skills transfer for event managers
Event Management is one of the fastest growing business activities in Europe, especially in the cultural sector. Although a truly transversal activity impacting on and crucial to the promotion of the arts, entertainment, heritage, culture, politics and tourism, Event Management in most European countries lacks qualificational coherence, and displays a wide range of qualifications, profiles and standards, and training/teaching paths at national, regional and local levels. Within the EU, only the UK and Germany have some kind of national standards recognized both by industry and public authorities. Several countries have training packages/offers for Event Managers, but it is only the UK that has EQF-referenced qualifications that progress candidates towards a national (UK) industry standard of competence. Answering the needs of European-wide Event Managers, the STEM project will use this standard as a reference, to inform a description of a likely occupational standard for the nations involved as partners, in order to design a path towards a proposed European standard for Event Management and to enhance the training activities/materials and the mobility of workers within the cultural sector.
The STEM – Skills Transfer for Event Managers
The project focused on learning materials developed and used in the UK to achieve the Event Manager qualification standards. The materials have been developed by Gecko Programmes and the main objective was to enhance, adapt and transfer them for (and in) Italy, Portugal, France and Poland so that vocational learners can be supported to achieve a standard of competence that was initially developed in the UK and could become relevant for Event Managers who are mobile across European borders and beyond. The project designed a training path (workshop sessions) to accelerate the transfer of these materials and within the lifetime of the project the involvement of EDI (a UK awarding body) as a silent partner assisted in the valorisation of the product.
